The Friends currently hold four Book Sales each year, coinciding with some of Historic New Castle's beloved community events...
Our Separation Day Book Sale is the Friends' longest-running, having been an important fundraiser for many years now and a much-anticipated annual tradition in its own right on the second weekend in June!
This Sale offers our Full Collection, including special items like Local Interest, Collectible & Rare Editions, and much more. |
The Friends began participating at Art on the Green in Battery Park through the generosity of the Historic New Castle Hundred Lions Club. They offered us an outdoor opportunity to hold a book sale during 2021 when it was difficult to hold events, and thankfully they just keep inviting us back for their amazing, annual, open air Craft Show in late September! This Sale has a focus on books about art, crafting, collectibles, and other topics related to the wider event, plus smaller selections from our other genres and collections. The Friends were excited to get in on the ground floor of the Library's first Winter Festival & Market - literally, in the basement! On the second Saturday of December each year, this great event coincides with the annual Spirit of Christmas celebration in New Castle. Luckily, we've moved up from the basement and this is now another Full Collection Sale. All of our genres are represented, plus a selection of holiday books and movies. Our first May Market Book Sale was also our first 'off-site' sale ever! The Friends are grateful to Arasapha Garden Club for welcoming us to play a role their beloved, first-weekend-of-May tradition, of which Book Sales have been a part since the first May Market in 1942! This Sale focuses primarily on Gardening Books and Cookbooks to complement May Market's primary offerings, with a small "preview" selection from our larger collection. Other Annual NCLF Events...
Each year at A Day in Old New Castle, America's longest-running private home and garden tour, the Friends live up to our moniker by greeting guests and helping them get their tickets and all of the information they need for a great day. We are also honored to be beneficiaries of this inter-organizational fundraising event, and grateful to New Castle Community Partnership for organizing it. |
Each Spring, the New Castle Library Friends also gather for an Annual Membership Dinner, which may feature fascinating local speakers, special updates from the Library and presentations from staff and more, along with a light meal, drinks and great conversation with Friends! This event also serves as our annual Membership Meeting, and generally includes about fifteen minutes of 'business,' including the election of the Friends Board. |
