Like many in our greater community, the news of Carlo “Corky” Viola’s passing this past September brought a great sadness to all of us here at the New Castle Public Library. Words can only fall short in expressing what Corky meant to not only our library, but the entire community of Historic New Castle. As many of you know, Corky was instrumental to the New Castle Public Library over the years, especially during our reconstruction from 2008 to 2010. One small consolation for us is that we were able to formally honor Corky for his immeasurable contributions to the betterment of our library last year at a beautiful reception in our rear garden, which was well-attended by Corky’s friends, family, and fans.
And just as Corky’s spirit will live on through our building and collections, his erudite talent as a visual artist will be forever immortalized through his prolific work as a photographer. Many of these works are currently on display at our library, on both the first floor and in our meeting room downstairs, which Corky himself had a huge hand in designing. Those who wish to view these works are invited to stop by our reference desk during our regular business hours.
The photographs on display are also available for sale, with all proceeds continuing Corky’s legacy of supporting the library. The New Castle Public Library would like to sincerely thank the Viola family and all of Corky’s loved ones for their generous donations to the New Castle Library Endowment Fund in his memory. We’re very proud to have known and worked alongside Corky, and we will keep his vision of the library as a center for the community close to our hearts as we continue to serve our patrons every day.

Do you have a child under 5? Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a resource that provides a free book each month for children up to their 5th birthday. Each year, the Blue Ribbon Book Selection Committee, a specially selected panel of early childhood experts, reviews hundreds of potential titles for inclusion in the collection. The committee chooses books that meet the different needs of children as they progress from birth to age five. All books are published by Penguin Random House.
